Drilled Ringtop Cowrie Shells – Grey (100 ct)
These drilled ringtop cowrie shells feature a gray top with a cream-colored edge and underside, accented by a distinctive orange ring along the top of the shell. Each shell is drilled with one hole at the narrow top, making them ready for use on bandoliers, necklaces, braid ties, dresses, and other craft or regalia projects.
Ringtop cowries are a modern import from Southeast Asia that became popular in the 20th century and remains widely used today. While they are commonly used in many Native-inspired craft applications, they are not traditionally used in place of elk teeth or money cowries on dresses, where money cowries were historically preferred.
Shells naturally vary in shape and color and range in size from approximately 5/8” to 13/16”.
