These black acrylic hairpipe beads are an affordable, lightweight alternative to traditional bone hairpipe. Made from durable acrylic, they are especially popular for projects where cost and weight are a concern, while still achieving the classic look of hairpipe work.

Each hairpipe bead is a tapered tube with a drilled center, featuring a larger hole than bone hairpipe, making stringing easier for certain designs. Acrylic hairpipe have been used for decades in the same craft applications as bone and shell hairpipe, including chokers, necklaces, breast plates, bandoliers, and other regalia.

Historically, early hairpipe were made from shell and were fragile and expensive. Bone hairpipe became widely used around 1880, and acrylic hairpipe later emerged as a modern material, offering durability, consistency, and lighter weight.
